The formula
| What you need | Formula |
|---|---|
| VAT on a price before VAT | Price × 15% |
| Price including VAT | Price + VAT |
| Price before VAT, from a price that includes it | Price including VAT ÷ (1 + 15%) |
| VAT, from a price that includes it | Price including VAT − price before VAT |
Amounts are rounded to the nearest halala. Example: SAR 1,000.00 before VAT carries SAR 150.00 VAT, SAR 1,150.00 in total.
Common questions
What is the VAT rate in Saudi Arabia?
The standard rate is 15%, in force since 1 July 2020.
How do I take VAT out of a price that includes it?
Divide the price including VAT by 1 plus the rate to get the price before VAT; the difference is the VAT. Choose Take VAT out in the calculator and it does this for you.
Does the same rate apply to every good and service?
No. Some supplies are zero-rated and some are exempt. This calculator applies the standard rate only.
Why is the result sometimes a halala off my own sum?
Because the calculator rounds to the nearest halala, and when taking VAT out it makes the VAT the difference, so the price and the VAT always add back to exactly the amount you entered.
Does Seen issue ZATCA-compliant tax invoices?
Yes. Seen works out VAT on every line and issues standard and simplified tax invoices with a QR code, to the requirements of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority.
